U.S. ready to provide military aid to Georgia

TBILISI. Oct 8 (Interfax) - The United States is ready to provide military aid to Georgia to guarantee its national security, Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze told a Monday news conference.

He said that a joint special group is now working out the parameters of the necessary aid.

In his opinion, Georgia has not signed a more important accord in defense in the past few years.

"Guarantees of Georgian defense will primarily mean security for the existing Eurasian corridor, in which the American side is also interested," Shevardnadze said.
