Recovered Kursk sub to cover 90km before entering Kola Bay

MOSCOW. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The Smit Weiss towboat is dragging the Giant-4 barge and the recovered Kursk submarine attached to it to the Kola Bay at the maximum possible speed of three knots, a spokesman for Navy Commander Vladimir Kuroyedov's administration told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

The barge-submarine composition has to cover some 50 nautical miles, which is some 90km, to the entrance to the bay. Almost 35 nautical miles, or 65km, are left behind.

The towboat is being accompanies by the Pyotr Veliky cruiser, Atrek and MB-38 towboats and Svir floating hospital. Specialists from the Semyon Dezhnyov oceanographic vessel are monitoring the radiation level in the water. The current data is within regular limits.

The Mayo vessel and KIL-164 hulk stay in the Kursk recovery area.

The weather on the territory favours the towing, the wind speed does not exceed 5m/s, and the sea swell is one point.
