TBILISI. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Air Force officials received six UH-1H Iroquois combat helicopters of the USA at the Alexeyevka military airfield in a Tbilisi suburb on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Defence Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The helicopters were delivered to a military transport plane from a US military base in Germany, the spokesman said. They were transferred to Georgia for free. Four more helicopters are to be handed over to the republic in a few days. They will be used as spare parts.
The so-called helicopter contract is being financed by the US Department of Defence and Defence Security Co-operation Agency, a spokesman for the US embassy in Georgia told Interfax-Military News Agency. The so-called helicopter contract envisages the transfer of six helicopters and equipment for their repairs, four helicopters for spare parts and a temporary hangar for helicopter stocking. Training of 11 Georgian military pilots, 21 technicians and two air traffic controllers will also be financed by the United States. The contract's total volume is USD15m.
