SUKHUMI, Abkhazia. Oct 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The Abkhazian parliament approved an appeal to the UN secretary general on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Abkhazian president administration told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The appeal stresses that up to 500 rebels entered Abkhazia from Georgia on October 3 and a helicopter with UN military observers was tracked down on Monday. Combat clashes resulted in casualties and serious damage was inflicted to several villages of the Gulripsh district. Georgia also dropped bombs on Abkhazia on Tuesday morning. The bomb strikes were carried out by SU-25 Frogfoot planes which the Georgian Air Force is armed with.
According to Abkhazian special services, additional guerrilla groups are currently heading for Abkhazia from Georgia and the Georgian authorities are aware of the situation, the petition says. The Abkhazian lawmakers suppose that such operations are nothing else but the start of wide-scale combat actions against Abkhazia. The parliament asked the UN secretary general to insist on the implementation of the UN resolution on cease-fire in the Georgia-Abkhazia conflict zone.
