SUKHUMI. Oct 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Speaker of the Abkhazian parliament Sokrat Dzhinzholiya has accused the Georgian leadership of backing the invasion by militants into the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia.
"Although Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has declared that he is prepared to fight terrorism, he failed notice that terrorists were trained in Georgia. They are now trapped in the Kodori gorge," Dzhinzholiya told Russian journalists in Sukhumi.
Dzhinzholiya recalled that militants staged an attack near the village of Naa in the Gulripsh district on Monday. "These terrorists were trained in Georgia and the Georgian leadership cannot deny that special services transferred them to the Kodori gorge via [Georgian] territory," he said.
"The Abkhazian parliament asked the Russian State Duma to put pressure on Georgia due to its failure to comply with the Sukhumi-Tbilisi agreement on the non use of force. The Abkhazian parliament asked Russia, a member of the UN Security Council, to initiate assessment of Georgia's policy of double-standards," he added.
