MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Defence Ministry press service strongly denied on Thursday the report of Great Britain's The Times claiming that Russian military units and technical specialists formations had entered the Afghan territory.
The paper said that artillery units of the 201st motorised rifle division had been relocated to Afghanistan. Particularly, the paper cited Russian reporter Pavel Felgengauer who said that Russian troops had entered the Afghan territory two weeks before.
"The article in the Times is based on false reports of incompetent journalists," the press service chief, Colonel Nikolai Deryabin told Interfax-Military News Agency. The Russian plans on participation in the US anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan are strictly outlined by Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov and President Vladimir Putin. They only feature provision of air corridors for planes with humanitarian cargo, delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghans and participation in search and rescue operations in that country.
