SLATINA, Kosovo. Oct 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian airborne units within KFOR have started withdrawal of heavy ordnance, ammo and other cargoes from the zone of the peacekeeping operation, a spokesman for the Russian Peacekeeping Contingent headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
The first train with 50 paratroopers and 20 pieces of ordnance left the Pleskovac terminal overnight to Tuesday and headed for the Orekhovo-Zuyevo terminal in the Moscow region. The contingent's commander Major General Vladimir Kazantsev, officials of the Airborne Troops and Moscow military district commissions came to see off the paratroopers. The withdrawal takes place under the auspices of the airborne units replacement with ground troops.
The withdrawal involves six trains which are to carry over 70 airborne fighting vehicles, some 200 automobiles and engineering vehicles, over 110t of ammo and other cargo and is planned to be completed in 15 days.
