MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Reports about the movement of the Chechen rebels led by Ruslan Gelayev from the Kodori gorge towards Russia's internal republic of Karachayevo-Cherkessia are coming from the Abkhazian side and may be trusted, Director of the Russian Federal Border Guard Service Konstantin Totsky told journalists on Tuesday.
"I have no reasons to disregard this information, the more so since it is coming from the Abkhazian commanders who are chasing the Chechen rebels," he said.
"Whereas previously our attention was concentrated on the Chechen and Ingush stretches of the Russian-Georgian border, our attention is now on the Kabardino-Balkarian and Karachayevo-Cherkessian sections of the border," Totsky said.
