MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov hopes that "the operation of placing the nuclear submarine Kursk in the dock will be completed this week."
In a Monday interview with Interfax he confirmed that in the afternoon he would fly to Severomorsk and from there to Roslyakovo with Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov. The last part of the operation to lift the Kursk, its placement in the floating dock, began on Sunday.
After the operation is completed Kuroyedov intends to attend an induction ceremony of the latest nuclear submarine Gepard tentatively slated for the end of November in Severodvinsk where the vessel is built.
"It will be very symbolic if the perished nuclear submarine Kursk is replaced by a new submarine," Kuroyedov said. "From the tragic loss of the sub we are advancing to the stage of construction, building a new fleet and new Russian submarines," he said.
"It will be a tribute to the sailors who died on the Kursk," the admiral said.
