MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Seventeen of the 26 lifting strands were detached from the Kursk submarine's hull by 11.00 Moscow time (0700 GMT) on Monday.
The work is continuing, Assistant to the Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Colonel Igor Dygalo has told Interfax.
As soon as the 26 strands are detached, the PD-50 dock may be lowered so that the Giant 4 barge can depart.
"However, the wind is expected to reach 12 meters per second in the afternoon, and the departure of the barge from the PD-50 dock may be cancelled," Dygalo said.
The work is being done in strict compliance with safety norms, and the radiation is normal, he said.
