Border guards detain five Jordanians on Russia-Finland border

MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax-AVN) - A patrol on the Russia-Finland border detained five Jordanians who attempted to cross the frontier illegally on Sunday, the press service of the Federal Border Guard Service told Interfax-Military News Agency.

A man, a woman and three children were spotted by a patrol sent by a checkpoint of the Vyborg border guard detachment, a press service official said. They were found 300 metres from the borderline after an electronic emergency system went off. The investigation into the incident is underway.

The Russia-Finland border still attracts attention of people from third-world countries trying to cross into Western Europe illegally. The Finnish authorities are also concerned over the problem and have been taking additional measures to strengthen the border guard regime and improve interaction with Russian colleagues.
