U.S., Turkish, Georgian officials to negotiate on support of Georgian Armed Forces

TBILISI. Oct 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Eurasia Mira Baratta will arrive here on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Georgian Defence Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Baratta will hold negotiations with officials of the Defence and Foreign Ministries and National Security Council on the strengthening of co-operation. According to Deputy Defence Minister Gela Bezhuashvili, the visit will lay tracks for trilateral Georgia-U.S.-Turkey co-operation in the military sphere. Two high-ranking officers of the Turkish General Staff responsible for strategic planning and logistics support to the armed forces will arrive in Tbilisi on Tuesday as well.

The participants to the talks will discuss support of the Georgian Armed Forces and joint measures against terrorism, Bezhuashivi said.

Baratta and Turkish officials will take part in the ceremony of handing six UH-1 Iroquois helicopters to Georgia. The U.S. helicopters will be transferred for free. Four more helicopters are to be handed for disassembly into spare parts later.
