KHANKALA. Oct 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels fired assault rifles and grenade launchers at federal units and installations six times on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency.
Three unidentified people fired at policemen from a Zhiguli car near the Chernorechye village of the Grozny rural district at 11.15 Moscow time (0715 GMT). The policemen were guarding an oil and gas industry installation. No casualties were registered.
Officers of temporary police departments held 12 search and preventive operations in Chechnya on Tuesday, checking 15,072 people and 10,692 vehicles, the spokesman said.
The police registered 361 administrative offences, including 121 violations of passport rules. They seized eight assault rifles, a pistol, seven hunting rifles, 12 shells, 12 grenades, 24 grenade launcher rounds and 2,128 small-arms cartridges. Besides, seven illegal oil refineries and four makeshift explosive devices were destroyed.
