Kyrgyzstan asks Russia for military-technical assistance worth USD2.5m

BISHKEK. Oct 31 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kyrgyz Defense Ministry has asked the Russian government for military-technical aid worth USD2.5m, Major General Vladimir Varfolomeyev, military attache of the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, told Interfax on Wednesday.

According to the request, sent to the Russian government by the Kyrgyz Defense Ministry, the Kyrgyz Armed Forces need communication facilities, ammunition, helicopter engines, and other equipment.

Varfolomeyev believes that free Russian military assistance to Kyrgyzstan is most likely to be granted as part of a mutual settlement for Russia's use of two military facilities, a communications center and a naval base, located on Issyk Kul lake.
