DUSHANBE. Nov 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Afghanistan's Northern Alliance has described U.S. air strikes against the Taliban on Wednesday as successful.
Sources in the Afghan Embassy in Tajikistan told Interfax on Thursday that the Taliban's ammunition depots and bases had been hit as a result of missile and bomb strikes against Kabul, Kandahar, Jelalabad and Mazar-e Sharif. In addition, a group of Pakistani armed volunteers who illegally crossed into Afghanistan on Tuesday and were moving towards Kandahar to support the Taliban was destroyed. About 200 Taliban supporters were killed and nearly 400 wounded.
However, 40 civilians were killed in Kabul when a bomb hit a civilian facility.
The Embassy said that the results of the bomb attacks were enhanced by intelligence provided by the Northern Alliance.
