Russia hails disposal of last two silos of intercontinental ballistic missiles in Ukraine

MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia is glad to hear about the disposal of Ukraine's last two silos of intercontinental ballistic missiles, says a statement of Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko obtained by Interfax on Thursday.

This "fully complies with the Lisbon protocol of 1992 and START-1," the statement reads.

"In the present-day situation, the event obviously strengthens the stability of international treaties on disarmament, strategic stability and international security," it notes.

Ukraine had about 1,300 warheads for intercontinental ballistic missiles and over 600 warheads for air-based cruise missiles as of early 1994, Interfax reported earlier.
