Kazan plant ready to launch production of piston engine for extra-light aircraft

KAZAN, Eastern European Russia. Nov 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Kazan engine-building production enterprise has completed preparations for mass production of the new P-1000 piston engine intended for powering extra-light aircraft, the administration of the plant's constructor general told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

The four-cylinder engine has the capacity of 80hp. It is started by an electric generator. The feeding system consists of two 13.5V generators developing 75W each, with general voltage making the standard 27V. The ignition is electronic, contactless and duplicated. The engine is cooled by wind-blast, but forced air cooling can be applied at some aircraft. The weight of the engine is 55kg.

P-1000 is running on regular AI-93 or AI-95 automobile petroleum, with fuel consumption on the cruising flight mode making 320g/kW/h. Power take-off from the crankshaft is effected by means of special reduction gear that provides for low vibration level, thus extending the engine's service life. The overhaul period makes 500 flight hours.

The plant is expected to certify the engine in 2002.
