KHANKALA. Nov 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian units have found a rebel base consisting of five small camps near the village of Turty-Khutor and outside Alleroi, populated by the clan of separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax on Friday.
Maskhadov is believed to have hidden in Alleroi for some time and his supporters and kin are still staying there, the spokesman said.
The base may have belonged to the rebel unit under Maskhadov's direct command, he said.
Six artillery shells, 10 mortar shells, 190 grenade launcher rounds and nearly 14,000 rounds of small arms ammunition were found in the camps, the official said.
