Chechen military leader Gelayev reported wounded

NALCHIK. Nov 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen military leader Ruslan Gelayev has been "heavily wounded but not killed," Chief-of-Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin told journalists while inspecting the Russian-Georgian border.

Russian army units have been transferred there to reinforce the Kabardino-Balkarian section of the border.

Gelayev was wounded in Georgia's Kodori Gorge, where most of his unit was eliminated, Kvashnin said.

"We have not yet received reports of what subsequently happened to Gelayev," he pointed out.

Militants will not be able to break through the reinforced section of the state border, he said.
