U.S. operation in Afghanistan is only beginning of global anti-terror struggle - Bush

WARSAW. Nov 6 (Interfax-AVN) - U.S. President George Bush has said that the operation of the American military in Afghanistan is just the beginning of actions against terrorism throughout the world.

Addressing the international anti-terror conference in Warsaw on Tuesday live via teleconference, he said the American military is systematically carrying out its tasks in Afghanistan by delivering strikes and waging combat operations against frontline Taliban troops.

The earlier we eliminate the al-Qaeda units, the better, Bush said.

At the same time, he believes that this is a very difficult struggle and will take as long as needed. We won't rest until the terrorists have been destroyed, the president noted.

Bush called for joint efforts against the terrorists and for an international coalition to root out this evil. He said this would significantly contribute to the success of the struggle and lead to the isolation of terrorism.

Joint systematic actions by various countries are needed so that terrorist bases, wherever they are, are exposed and crushed, the president emphasized.

He said activity (by other countries) to counteract terrorism should go beyond compassion and sympathy.

The president noted the contributions of some NATO countries who have pledged military aid to the United States. He also thanked other countries for sharing intelligence information related to the anti- terror campaign with Washington.

Bush re-emphasized that the U.S. and its allies are not at war with Islam. We are waging a struggle against fanatics with crazy global ambitions, who seek to possess bacteriological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, sowing destruction, and threatening civilization, the U.S. president said.
