Russian Far Eastern border guards to leave for Tajikistan in near future

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Nov 8 (Interfax-AVN) - A motorized maneuverable group of the North-eastern regional border guard department will leave for Tajikistan in near future to join the Russian border force in that country, a spokesman for the department headquarters said on Thursday.

The departure date is not set yet, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. Cyclones are dominating the wealther in the Kamchatka Peninsula so the departure of the group's plane is postponed.

The group comprises 20 officers and warrant officers, most of whom have made service trips to trouble spots, in particular, to Chechnya. According to the department's deputy chief Major General Vladimir Grigorovich, the group is led by Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Denisyuk who is among the most experienced officers in the department.

Kamchatka border guards have been involved in guarding CIS southern borders, in particular, the Tajik-Afghan frontier, since mid-90ies. However the department's border guards did not leave for Central Asia for four years. The decision on the dispatch a new group of officers and warrants was made in the wake of the latest developments in Afghanistan.
