DUSHANBE. Nov 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A counterattack staged by the Taliban troops is threatening rear communications of the Northern Alliance forces led by General Abdurashid Dostum, a source in the alliance headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
The alliance forces are besieging the town of Mazar-e Sharif, capital of the Balkh province. Meanwhile, battles are on in the rear of the Dostum's troops near the Kishinda Payn village, which is 70km to 75km south of Mazar-e Sharif. The U.S. Air Force has made bomb strikes on the Taliban troops in the area at the request from the Northern Alliance command.
"If the attacks do not force the Taliban to retreat Dostum's units might be separated from the their main bases in the Akkupruk district," the source added.
