Unified federal group in Chechnya to complete withdrawal by early 2002

MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The withdrawal of a major part of the unified federal group in Chechnya will end by the beginning of 2002, North Caucasus military district commander Colonel General Gennady Troshev told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

The withdrawal takes place strictly in accordance with the reduction schedule, Troshev said.

After the withdrawal the 42nd motorized rifle division of the Defense Ministry and 46th brigade of the Interior Ministry troops permanently stationed in Chechnya, as well as airborne units operating in the south of the republic will stay in the area.

The district has summed up results of its activities in the past training year which in general evidence high combat capability of troops and effectiveness of federal operations in Chechnya, Troshev said. The best results were achieved by the 58th general army headquartered in Vladikavkaz. Troshev underlined that the army was the most powerful and well-trained part of the Land Forces which was capable to accomplish any mission in combat conditions.
