Northern Alliance liberates Konduz - Afghan ambassador to Dushanbe

DUSHANBE. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Northern Alliance forces have captured Konduz, the second largest city in northern Afghanistan, Afghan ambassador to Tajikistan Said Ibrahim Hikmat told Interfax on Monday.

This is a very important victory, because large Taliban forces had been based in the city, the ambassador said. He would not give the details of the operation.

It was Konduz where nearly 8,000 gunmen arrived to aid the Taliban from Peshawar, Pakistan, more than a week ago.
