STAVROPOL. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Police chief in the Stavropol territory Lieutenant General Alexander Saprunov has ordered to scale up security in the entire region, a police spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
Policemen are paying special attention to markets in the Mineralnye Vody area which are regularly visited by dozens of thousands of locals and visitors, the spokesman said. Additional patrols have been dispatched to the vicinity of Pyatigorsk, where the North Caucasus' largest markets Lyudmila, Lira and Kazachy are located. The patrols include sniffer dogs trained to search for explosives.
Town and district police chiefs inspected security systems of the territory's markets on Sunday. They are to report to the territory's leadership by Monday night on the measures taken to eliminate exposed shortcomings.
According to the spokesman, the markets face the same problems - insufficient number of video cameras and lack of engineering barrages preventing vehicles from breaking into flocks. Only the Lira market meets all security requirements.
Stationary police checkpoints near the borders with the Kabardino-Balkarian and Karachayevo-Cherkessian autonomous republics have been reinforced with additional mobile groups of the road police, the spokesman added.
