MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Emergencies Ministry will send humanitarian cargo to Cuba which was affected by the Michelle hurricane on November 4 to 7, a spokesman for the ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
The first IL-76 Candid plane carrying 27.5t of canned meat and 4.5t of infant food will fly to Havana at 6 p.m. Moscow time (1500 GMT) on Monday. The second Candid with 14t of canned milk, 10t of rice and six tons of windowpane will leave at 8 p.m. Moscow time (1700 GMT).
Russia has allocated some USD485,690 for the humanitarian aid to Cuba, the spokesman said.
According to the UN department on humanitarian issues coordination, the hurricane claimed the lives of five people and 12 people were injured. Almost 750,000 citizens were relocated from the coast to Cuban inlands.
In Havana alone, the hurricane destroyed 1,550 houses, 26 schools, 10 kindergartens, dozens of enterprises and life support installations, communication and power lines.
