GROZNY/MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian defense structures have not confirmed rumors of the execution of Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Boryayev by warlord Khattab's militants. Boryayev was captured on September 29 in Chechnya.
"Work to liberate Boryayev from Chechen captivity has not been terminated and is being continued in various directions," a defense official told Interfax in Grozny on Wednesday.
The Defense Ministry provided no official information on Boryayev's fate. "Being well-aware of the bandit inclinations of Khattab and his associates, the ministry leadership must admit that a tragic outcome cannot be ruled out in the current situation," they added.
