Defense Systems enterprise to oversee logistic support of Russian-Belarussian air defense system

MINSK. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN)- The Defense Systems international financial and production enterprise has been assigned the task of providing logistic support to the Russian-Belarussian Unified Air Defense System, a spokesman for the State Secretariat of the Belarussian Security Council told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

The Unified Air Defense System is to be set up in accordance with the project of the corresponding intergovernmental agreement now being assessed by the concerned bodies of Russia and Belarus. Now the enterprise comprises 15 legal entities in Russia and 4 legal entities in Belarus.

Defense Systems was founded in February 2000 on the basis of the Russian Defense Systems financial and production enterprise in accordance with the agreement between the two countries.

Problems concerning the Unified Defense System were touched upon by Director General of the Rosoboronexport state unitary federal enterprise Andrei Belyaninov during his recent visit to Belarus.

The spokesman said Belarus was interested in the co-operation with Rosoboronexport, especially as far as export of military products to third countries is concerned. The two sides have already carried out several joint programs, one of them being the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle modernization program in the United Arab Emirates. The project proved the efficiency of the co-operation between the Russian and Belarussian enterprises in fulfilling export contracts.

Belarussian economic entities co-operate with Rosoboronexport, too; they purchase military-purpose products for the Belarussian Armed Forces and defense industry companies and sell some products to the enterprise. There are other aspects of the co-operation, as well.
