Federals kill 62 rebels in Chechnya last week

KHANKALA. Nov 19 (Interfax-AVN) - As many as 62 rebels were destroyed in Chechnya last week, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

Federal units carried out 34 joint search operations in 64 Chechen villages and their outskirts. As a result seven rebel bases, five ammo caches and 532 illegal oil refineries were eliminated. Servicemen confiscated 110 pieces of small arms, two anti-tank guided missiles, 10 mortars, 343 grenades, 84,729 small-arms cartridges, 96 artillery and 126 mortar shells and 26.9kg of explosives.

In general, the situation in the republic remains complicated. Extremists continue daily attacks on federal units and are planting mines on the routes of federal convoys.
