ST.PETERSBURG. Nov 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The Talwar frigate will begin to undergo sea trials under command of Captain Igor Demidovich on Monday; the Nalwar is the first fregate of the three vessels built at the St. Petersburg-based Baltic Plant for the Indian Navy.
The trials will be carried out in the Gulf of Finland during the three weeks to follow. The crew will test the reliability of the powerplant and prepare the vessel for live firing. Missile and gun firing from all the weapons will be performed in the presence of Indian Navy officers to show nautical and fire capabilities of the frigate.
The Talwar (Sword) Project 11356 frigate was launched on May 12 2000, the Trishul (Trident), the second frigate of the project, was launched on November 24 2000. The third vessel designated as the Tabar (the Poleaxe) was launched on May 25 2002. The first frigate is to enter service with the Indian Navy in May 2002.
