Leningrad region hosting conference on railway bridges restoration, coverage

ST.PETERSBURG. Nov 20 (Interfax-AVN) - A participant in a research and practical conference underway in the Leningrad region urged on Tuesday to use the elements of technical coverage worked out in Chechnya to reduce the probability of terrorist acts on Russian railways.

The conference entitled "Problems of Technical Coverage and Restoration of Bridge Crossings. Present State and Development Prospects" opened at the Railway Troops Military and Technical University in the town of Petrodvorets on Tuesday. The two-day event is chaired by Railway Troops Deputy Commander Lieutenant General Yevgeny Kornishin.

Particiants in the conference will discuss the latest achievements in the sphere of bridge building and experience in restoration of bridges and other railway installations in combat conditions, also gained in Chechnya. In particular, they will study the experience in mine clearance and bridges restoration on the Gudermes-Khasavyurt railway span and the Grozny terminal, the source said.

The event is attended by officials of the Railway Ministry and operations department of the Leningrad military district headquarters.
