KHANKALA. Nov 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal sappers defused three landmines planted by guerrillas on the Rostov-Baku highway near the Chechen village of Samashki on Thursday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The same day, guerrillas opened fire at a federal checkpoint on the outskirts of the Assinovskaya village, the spokesman said. Federals fired back and scattered the attackers, suffering no losses in the incident.
The Interior Ministry department for Chechnya has reported that a man was detained in the Achkhoi-Martan district on suspicion of committing several crimes. Policemen seized three Kalashnikov assault rifles, an RPK machine-gun, about 3kg of explosives and over 300 cartridges for small arms from a cache near the Shaami-Yurt village.
Another cache was exposed in the village of Borzoi in the Shatoi district. It contained two cluster bombs, grenades and small-arms ammo.
