MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Ilyushin aircraft production enterprise has drafted proposals on the modernization of IL-76 Candid transport planes which are used by the Russian Air Force and civil airlines, the enterprise's constructor general Rady Papkovsky told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
The modernization primarily features the installation of new engines, on-board equipment and avionics. In particular, the enterprise has developed technical documentation on fitting the Candids with additional equipment required by ICAO standards. Three IL-76 planes have gone through the modernization.
Moreover, the enterprise plans to fit IL-76 planes with new PS-90A-76 engines replacing D-30KP that do not meet the ICAO requirements on the noise level.
The mounting of new engines will help the planes enter international airlines and reduce their fuel consumption. According to Papkovsky, the new engines are 20 to 25 percent more economical than the old ones. During the modernization the planes will be also fitted with new loading and unloading equipment with remote control.
The modernization of Candids that are operated on international airlines becomes extremely important due to introduction of new ICAO standards of noise level next year.
At present the IL-76 is the main Russian transport plane. Over 900 aircraft of such type have been constructed.
