Ukraine’s armed forces to employ new standard communications assets

KIEV. Nov 23 (Interfax-AVN) – The Ukrainian armed forces are now adopting communications assets of a new standard, Chief Engineer of the Ukrainian Signal Corps Colonel Veniamin Ryzhov told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

The colonel declined to give any precise information on the assets to be employed in the Ukrainian army, yet he said that “the digital integral system of the Armed Forces would be based on the home-made digital channeling and automatic communications assets”. The development of a new Army radio station is now being completed in Ukraine, Ryzhov added.

A source in the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said that the readiness level of the Unified Automated Command and Control System's stationary component was to reach 20 % in 2002. The system developed for the Army is based on the Dnepr and Karpaty local automated command and control systems now in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The source stressed that the emphasis would be put on the development of the command and control systems for advanced defense forces.

Ukraine will have to spend as much as UAH60m (almost USD12m) to develop the Unified Automated Command and Control System.
