Georgian platoon within KFOR to undergo rotation soon

TBILISI. Nov 26 (Interfax-AVN) - A new platoon of the Georgian peacekeeping forces ended training in the Kodrzhor training center of the Georgian Defense Ministry's quick-response forces, a spokesman for the ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

The platoon was trained to join KFOR. It will be the fifth rotation of the Georgian peacekeepers carrying out missions as part of the Turkish military contingent in Kosovo. The Georgian platoon is stationed at strongpoints near the Mamusha village and tasked to prevent resumption of armed conflicts between Albanians and Serbs in the area.

Before going to Kosovo the platoon will once again undergo special training in Turkey together with the Turkish battalion which is also supposed to be sent to Kosovo in the near future.

Georgia has been participating in the NATO peacekeeping operation in Kosovo since 1999. In accordance with an agreement between the Turkish Armed Forces command and KFOR headquarters the platoon accomplishes missions at the Balkans within the Turkish battalion and undergoes rotation twice a year.
