TBILISI. Nov 26 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian administration is ready to "adjust the plans" of the withdrawal of the 12th and 62nd Russian military bases, which are in Batumi (Adzharia) and Akhalkalaki (Samtse- Dzhavakheti region) from the republic.
"Georgia's position on this issue has not changed cardinally, but at the negotiations some adjustments are possible," Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili told Interfax on Monday.
"Now that the ministers of defense and foreign affairs of Georgia have been appointed, nothing should hinder the resumption of negotiations with Russia on the withdrawal of the bases from Batumi and Akhalkalaki," Bezhuashvili said.
The Georgian administration has so far insisted that the 12th and 62nd bases should be withdrawn from the republic within three years. The Russian administration says it will require a minimum of 14 years, and cites a number of problems, in particular, the settlement of the troops on Russian territory.
