MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian General Staff is satisfied with the results of the use of the Krasnopol, Santimetr and Smelchak controlled projectiles in Chechnya, Lieutenant General Vladimir Zaritsky, chief of the Armed Forces missile troops and artillery, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
The efficiency of high-precision ammo in Chechnya became absolutely visible after the end of large-scale combat operations against rebel groups, when missile and artillery arms began to be used for elimination of concrete and well-explored targets, Zaritsky said.
According to him, federals use tube artillery and mortars in the breakaway republic, too. The use of high-precision ammo is one of the main efficiency factors but the high training level of artillery crews and their ability to conduct fire in limited terms as well as locate targets precisely are also important for success of the anti-guerrilla operation, Zaritsky added.
"When the troops are equipped with new high-precision arms and ammo missilemen and artillerymen will be capable of accomplishing up to 70 percent of firing missions in the tactical and operational depth of the offensive," Zaritsky stressed.
