Russian UAZ-3160 jeeps certified as meeting NATO standards

ULYANOVSK, Volga Region. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian UAZ-3160 jeep has been certified as meeting NATO standards and included in NATO catalogues, Vadim Shvetsov, board of directors chairman in the Ulyanovsk automobile plant, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

The fact does not mean that the NATO servicemen will use those jeeps during combat operations in the near future for the jeeps still fail to meet European standards. Even if the plant installs Euro-2 standard engines in its vehicles in the near future the first supplies are unlikely to be global, Shvetsov said.

Mongolia, Vietnam and Middle Eastern countries remain the main importers of the plant's vehicles. Several Latin American nations have ordered test batches, too, Shvetsov added.
