DUSHANBE. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) – Joint exercises of Russian and American rescuers were held at the Ayni airfield 35 kilometers east of Dushanbe, a spokesman for the Russian 201st motorized rifle division headquarters in Tajikistan told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
The objective of the exercises was to search and rescue crew members in case their aircraft crashed in mountain and desert terrain. A total of 50 experts participated in the exercises, six aircraft were used.
The spokesman said the American side was doing its best to attain full readiness of US rescue services for similar operations in the north of Afghanistan.
