KABUL/MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax) - The deployment of a Russian humanitarian relief center is underway in Kabul, the Emergency Situations Ministry Press Center told Interfax on Wednesday. Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Col. Gen. Valery Vostrotin is heading the operation.
A location for the center has been determined jointly with Afghan authorities. The area has been freed of explosives.
Two IL-76TD Candid aircraft of the ministry flew in most of the team. A total of 55 specialists and 26 tonnes of equipment were delivered. The center will be completely self-sufficient and include electricity and water sources, as well as a bakery.
Russia will expand its relief force in Afghanistan. Around 200 people including support staff and guards will work there, the press center source said.
A field hospital with a 30-bed capacity will be set up in Kabul within the next few days. Local residents will be treated in the hospital.
The relief center is being deployed in the framework of expanding humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, and in keeping with Russian President Vladimir Putin's instructions.
