Federal helis hammer Chechen rebel groups breaking through to Georgia

KHANKALA. Nov 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Two MI-24 Hind fire support helicopters of the unified federal group in the North Caucasus inflicted air strikes on three small rebel groups comprising up to 10 people each on Thursday morning, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The groups were exposed by reconnaissance near the southern Chechen villages of Tazbichi and Bashen-Kale. Helicopter pilots said the rebels were breaking through southward to the Georgian border. Having been detected the guerrillas tried to put up resistance but suffered losses and were dispersed in forest- covered mountains.
