FSB department for Chechnya investigating its agent's murder

GROZNY. Nov 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The Federal Security Service (FSB) department for Chechnya has launched a probe into the murder of its agent in Grozny, a spokesman for the department told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

The agent responsible for the work of the Chechen Agriculture Ministry was killed by a sniper the previous night. The sniper was waiting for the agent at the entrance to a Grozny administration building.

The investigators are analyzing two stories of the crime. The murder may have been related to the agent's efforts to expose contrivances in the ministry. At the same time, the agent may have been killed by rebels who implemented their leadership's order to eliminate Russian servicemen, special service agents and people cooperating with federal authorities.
