Russian experts consider possibility of restoring Salang passover tunnel

KABUL. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Experts from the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry together with the Afghan authorities are studying the possibility of a speedy renewal of traffic through the destroyed tunnel in Salang passover.

Deputy Minister Valery Vostrotin left for Salang with a group of experts on Thursday. The restoration of the tunnel will facilitate humanitarian convoys from Dushanbe to Kabul.

A Russian hospital continues functioning in Kabul. On Wednesday it received 85 patients, bringing the total number to 363 patients in four days. Surgeons have conducted four operations.

In the process of checking the hospital site and field base of the humanitarian center in Kabul, Russian sappers discovered 685 explosive devices and transferred them to the Afghan Security Ministry for destruction. ml cj
