SUKHUMI. Dec 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The United Nations is alarmed by the situation in Abkhazia's Kodori Gorge after 350 Georgian regular troops entered the area, special envoy of the UN secretary general to Georgia Dieter Boden told Interfax on Thursday.
"The presence of troops in the area violates the 1994 agreement," he said. "It may lead to the appearance of a new seat of tension in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone," he said.
Boden had a confidential meeting with Anri Jergeniya, the prime minister of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia, in Sukhumi on Thursday.
