Russian exports of armaments, materiel to exceed USD4bn in 2001 (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian exports of armaments and materiel will exceed USD4bn in 2001, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Military-Technical Cooperation with Foreign States Alexander Denisov said at a press conference at the Interfax main office on Monday.

"We hope that Russia will outdo this index next year," he said.

Russia will get even more foreign currency profits this year, because "one third of the returns are payments for previous supplies of armaments and materiel," Denisov said.

He found it difficult to name the total revenues of all partakers in Russia's military-technical cooperation in 2001. "The final sum will become known in March 2002," he said. The overall foreign currency profits "will exceed USD4bn, but be smaller than USD5bn," Denisov said.

Asked about violations in the arms trade, including small deductions to the federal budget allegedly exposed by the Auditing Chamber, Denisov said, "I cannot understand the method of calculation used by the Auditing Chamber."

"The Finance Ministry estimates deductions at USD70m. Next year, the Auditing Chamber will make a planned inspection of Rosoboronexport and the Committee on Military-Technical Cooperation. Everything will become clear from the results of that inspection," Denisov said.
