Every complaint about violations will be checked - Russian security chief in Chechnya

GROZNY. Dec 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Chef of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) department in Chechnya Sergei Babkin has given an assurance that "every complaint from citizens about pillage and other federal violations against civilians will be listened to."

He has told Interfax that "the law enforcement agencies working in Chechnya, including the special services, examine all statements coming in from civilians." "We cannot allow the struggle against terrorists and bandits in Chechnya to infringe on the rights of peaceful civilians," stressed Babkin.

He confirmed that at present the Chechen Prosecutor's Office was considering, along with the military counterintelligence service and the FSB, complaints about incidents of pillage and office abuse by federal forces in the course of a special operation in Argun.

"Work is under way and the public will be informed about the investigation results," the FSB chief stressed. "Regrettably, such facts are not isolated, but all of them have been and will be investigated," he added.
