PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Dec 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Troops and Forces of the Russian North-east will dispatch all of their road machinery on Wednesday to clear roads from Petropavlovsk- Kamchatsky to remote garrisons, a spokesman for the troops and forces headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Most motorways, especially in the provinces, are fully covered by snow after five days of snowfall, and traffic is impossible," the spokesman said. Precipitation made over 100mm on Monday alone, and the snow is over two meters high at present.
Stable communication is maintained with remote garrisons, they have necessary stocks of food and fuel and can wait until the cyclone leaves the Kamchatka Peninsula, the spokesman said. "Of course, we had to call off some important military exercises, but the training year has just begun, we will update the plans and implement them in full," he stressed.
Storm warning declared at vessels of the troops and forces five days ago is still in force. However there have been no emergency situations at the vessels since the arrival of the cyclone, the spokesman said.
The troops and forces command had to postpone the flight to Vladivostok scheduled for Monday because the Yelizovo airport had been shut down temporarily due to bad weather. The commanders were expected to attend a session of the Pacific Fleet military council.
