First American planes land in Bishkek

BISHKEK. Dec 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The first American military transport planes involved in the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan have landed at Manas international airport in Bishkek on Tuesday.

Two C-17 and two C-5 aircraft have arrived in Bishkek under a Kyrgyz-U.S. intergovernmental agreement making Kyrgyz facilities available to American servicemen for use in the anti- terrorist operation, the management of Manas International Airport told Interfax.

Sources in the U.S. military contingent in Bishkek have informed Interfax that 150 American servicemen are currently located at Manas airport.

The four transport planes brought in equipment for receiving U.S. planes and assisting the work of the up to 2,000 strong contingent, a source said.

Up to four transport planes carrying relief and military cargo for the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan are expected to arrive in Bishkek daily.
