KHANKALA. Dec 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal artillery has destroyed a guerrilla gang numbering about 10 people in the eastern Chechen Vedeno district, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Wednesday.
The guerrillas riding on two cars were spotted by scouts who reported the gang's position to the artillery, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. It has been established that the gang got an order to move from the Vedeno district to the Chechen plains and start large-scale mining activities on highways and at other installations.
Sappers on an engineer intelligence mission in the Samashki forest found and defused two powerful landmines on a busy section on the Rostov-Baku highway, the spokesman said. A guerrilla armed with a pistol was detained when he was planing a landmine.
