U.S. transfers communication equipment to Tajik border guards

DUSHANBE. Dec 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The United States has transferred equipment for satellite communication to Tajik border guards, a spokesman for the state border guard committee under the Tajik government said on Wednesday.

The equipment has enhanced protection from tapping, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The spokesman was asked to comment of results of the negotiations involving committee chairman Sayedanvar Kamolov and officials of the U.S. Departments of State and Defense that took place in Dushanbe.

"The parties discussed a broad range of issues, including provision of funds by the United States in the framework of the anti-terrorist program for organizing export control in Tajikistan. Financial and technical aid to protection of the republic's borders was on the agenda, too," the spokesman said.
